NoMiWoman interviewed Denice Weeks, President of Horse North Rescue.
What’s the greatest impact Horse North Rescue drives across Northern Michigan?
One of our largest goals is simply education. We try to emphasize if you see something wrong, report it to the proper agencies, animal control or HNR. We know how to help horses in need, but we need the community to be our eyes and ears. No horse should ever suffer and with the help of the community we can help alleviate these situations.
In addition to helping horses who are in bad situations, another aspect to our rescue is education for prevention. Unfortunately, most horses come into the rescue because of the owner(s) not having adequate equine knowledge or resources. We have seen it all, we know every equine diet, and have vast community equine resources. If anyone wants to call us for advice, we are happy to help and alleviate the risk of a horse getting into a dire situation.
